It’s a cute, funky little spot with craft cocktails that feels like it belongs in a bigger city. The vibe is fun, stylish, a little edgy in a way that makes you want to sit at the bar and order something pretty and expensive.
But as a vegan, I would be very careful eating here.
I ordered the vegan option, and it came out topped with a creamy sauce. Something felt off, so I asked the server if the sauce was vegan. They said no.
That alone tells me everything I need to know about how tightly they’re tracking ingredients and modifications. If you’re vegan, you shouldn’t have to interrogate a dish that is being presented as your option.
The dish itself was a quinoa bowl, and it wasn’t thoughtful or inspired. I love a well done quinoa bowl when it’s layered, fresh, and has real texture and flavor. This one didn’t. It mostly tasted frozen, like pre prepped components thrown together without much care.
Also, I noticed something on the menu that made me raise an eyebrow. They have items labeled vegetarian, but then mention they’re cooked in beef tallow. That’s not vegetarian, and it’s definitely not vegan friendly energy. It gives me the impression that they’re not really concerned about the difference, or about keeping people safe who are choosing these foods intentionally.
So here’s my take.
If you go to Sauvage, go for the cocktails. Enjoy the vibe. It’s a great place to grab a drink. But I would not go here hungry expecting a solid vegan meal unless you’re prepared to ask very specific questions about every single component, including sauces, broths, fats, and garnishes.
For me, this is a cocktail spot, not a food spot.
